What is a Canadian Immigration Medical Exam?
A Canadian immigration exam is a medical examination of your health to determine entry or denial of immigration status. The exam is completed by a panel physician approved by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Immigration Medical Exams (IME) are available through our West Clinic location and instructions for booking and completing these medicals are available by using the links below.
Please be advised that regardless of having Alberta Health Care coverage you (the patient) will be required to cover any costs required for the examination.
Immigration Medical Appointment Instructions
** Our panel physicians are only authorized to preform medicals on patients immigrating to Canada**

Fees for exams (charged at time of appointment – cash or debit/credit – PIN required):
Medical $240.00 (per person)
Xray $75.00 (per person, required for age 11 years and up)
X-rays: are done at our Bigelow Fowler West Clinic, you MUST have had your Immigration Medical Exam at the Bigelow Fowler Clinic to complete your X-rays here.
Labs: Required for ages 15 years and up. There will be a fee for labs (contact Alberta Precision Labs for amount).
- We recommend you pre book a lab appointment for the same day as your visit with the doctor. MAKE sure you give yourself enough time in between appointments because it is at a different location. They also accept walk in patients.

How to Prepare for your Appointment
Required Identification: Passport, Canadian Drivers License or Refugee Status Papers (these should be valid and up-to-date, call the Clinic if you are unsure about your ID)
Required Documentation: Any official papers you have received from Immigration Canada, for example: Work Permit, Study Permit, or Visitor Permit, if applicable.- Any additional paperwork you may have received from IRCC including your IME number if one been assigned to you.
No photos required – a photo will be taken at your appointment
All prescription medications: the bottles themselves or the name and dosages
Glasses for the vision test (if you wear them)
If you need a translator, you are required to bring someone with you to your appointment.

Following your appointment your completed IME will be submitted by our staff via E-Medical online services (the preferred delivery method of IRCC) within 7-10 days. The process could be delayed if IRCC requires additional testing, physician visits or specialist referrals. You will be responsible for these additional costs.
